An interactive prototype exploring a new Insights product at Tembo. I worked with business analysts on the design and built the working version, not a clickable mockup.
The stack choice was a business decision
React and Gatsby were chosen for two specific reasons, and neither was developer preference.
Cost. Gatsby compiles school data down into heavily optimized static pages. Serving those needs close to nothing, which matters when the customer is a school district.
Protecting the technology. The compiled output contains the pages and the data, but not the logic that generated them. That meant we could hand a district static files to serve on their own infrastructure and still keep the valuable part of the system.
Following the Jamstack model here was not a trend decision. It was the only shape that let us give customers what they wanted without giving away how it worked.
